I'd like to announce that Gadgets are now enabled on The Demon's Light Wiki.
Gadgets is an extension that allows users to pick JavaScript or CSS based "gadgets" that other community users provide. The scripts are available for users to enable or disable in their preferences under the tab labeled "Gadgets".
They're designed using JavaScript and/or CSS located on pages in the MediaWiki namespace. Each gadget is added by adding a new entry to MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition, providing a name and description for the gadget, and a list of the JS and CSS that it uses.
Gadgets generally use the same principle as MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css because they allow scripting or styling over the entire site.
Using Special:Gadgets allows you to see a list of gadgets you can enable for your own account. These gadgets are mostly based on JavaScript, so personal JS needs to enabled in your preferences in order for most of them to work properly.
Due to the fact that Gadgets are not part of the MediaWiki software and added/edited by local administrators and content moderators, we are open to suggestions about gadgets you would like to use and have added here. So please feel free to add your suggestions in the comments below.
Current Gadgets[]
Currently we have five gadgets in use here on this wiki:
- BlogLink — Adds links to the user's blog, contributions, and PseudoTalk (if applicable) pages to the GlobalNav drop-down menu.
- SnowStorm — Adds animated JavaScript snow to the wiki. Usage is advised during the Holiday season.
- UserAccountAge — Adds a tag to the profile masthead which shows the age of an account.
- CustomColors — Customizes the names of users both on the wiki and in Special:Chat.
- Note: This gadget reverts the username color schemes to how they were before a unified user group color scheme was added to the wiki.
- WHAM — Adds vandalism prevention tools to a user's contributions page.
- Note: This gadget is only available to administrators, assistants, content moderators, and rollbacks.
