As everyone was throwing out their trays once they finished their meals, Savannah and Token had a short conversation on how the food did not taste great. Once they finished, Melissa asked if they should leave the building since they were already fed. After Atticus reminded everyone that they should not leave without Chris, Marshall suggested going for a walk around the building as they waited. Atticus immediately spoke up against the idea as he believed it to be trespassing. Token dismissed this claim, believing it impossible for them to trespass once they were personally invited inside the building. Though it took some convincing, everyone eventually agreed to go with Token.

Savannah Whitesmith is a recurring character in The Demon's Light. She discovered Atticus Anoethite, Chris Wellington, and Melissa Devlin in an abandoned barn in Gladea at the start of the series and played a central role in the first half of Season One.

Appearance

Savannah is a 17-year-old girl, who is quite skinny and tall, standing at 5'10. She has long dark brown hair that folds down her shoulders and bangs that reach her eyebrows. She has greenish-blue eyes. She generally wears dark clothing.

Personality

Savannah is a kind person, who likes helping people, evident when she found Melissa and Atticus injured in the barn and decided to help them as opposed to going home. She also has a sarcastic side and is quick to snap when frustrated.

Background

Xeren was a first-generation deity, an ancient being with the ability to manipulate reality. In his original form, Xeren created the planet Euclid and the human species. Xeren allied with the demons in a war against their creator, Elo. Elo's angels and Xeren's demons fought for control of Eden in a long-lasting war.

The other Powers that Be initially refused to intervene, however Xeren's actions eventually forced them to act in favor of Elo. Xeren was killed and his soul left his body. The soul, a glowing red sphere, ascended into Euclid's atmosphere and began to orbit around the planet. Centuries later, it could still be seen streaking across the sky.

Despite Xeren's death and the eventual demise of Elo, the war between angels and demons continued. The deity's half-demon son Kaz sought to find the soul to empower himself. After the demon army had invaded Euclid, Gabriel Alchemilia opened a portal and brought the angels from Eden. Humans had looked to the angels as their saviors only to find they were indifferent to (or wholly against) the preservation of their species and civilization.

302 years after the war had been brought to Euclid, Savannah Whitesmith was born in the village of Jasinski, Thales. Unbeknownst to her, she was the reincarnation of Xeren.

Abilities

Savannah is fairly weak. Her strength equates to the average human female, and she has no physical abilities or psychic abilities.

Role in Series

Season One

"Awakening"

In the forest near Silivia, Savannah was running, trying to find shelter from a storm. Seeing an old barn in the distance, she quickly made towards it and stumbled inside it.

Once inside, she was shocked at the scene in front of her; a boy and girl, both injured, with the girl passed out on the ground. The boy rested against the wall and Savannah struck up a small conversation with him, quickly learning he was suffering from amnesia as well as his several physical wounds.

As she went to check on the girl on the ground, she became startled upon hearing a robotic voice speak up out of nowhere. Suddenly, hay in the corner of the barn parted and a teenage boy stepped out from behind it, introducing himself as "Chris Wellington" and asking if his father had returned for him. After a brief conversation with Savannah, Chris walked over to the injured boy and began to question him on his injuries. After Chris began to talk about his sensors showing the boy and the sleeping girl to be injured, the boy became confused and Chris then explained that he was an android. After asking Chris if he knew how he had ended up in the barn, Chris told him that his "father" had dropped him off at the barn and deactivated him, making it where he had no memory of events between then and being activated by Savannah's presence.

The sleeping girl then began to stir, slowly waking up. Sitting up slightly, she looked at the three in the barn and questioned them on their identities and how she got there. Savannah stepped close to her, and began to ask her questions. After the boy introduced himself as Atticus Anoethite, the girl paused and focused on him, saying she remembered him. After saying she remembered running into the barn with him, she revealed she had amnesia as well and could not remember any other events. Savannah then asked for her name, with the girl revealing her name to be Melissa. Savannah then assisted her in standing up.

Savannah then asked if they were ready to leave the barn and find assistance, and the new group headed out together, with Chris tagging along in the hopes of finding his father.

As the four walked through the forest, they soon came across a clearing and paused for a short break. As they talked among themselves, the area was suddenly engulfed in a red aura as a ball of red light crossed over in the sky. Both amazed and frightened by the scene, they gazed at the light as it continued to spread across the sky, before it disappeared from sight.

Unsure of its origins, they continued forward as they spotted a van driving down a gravel road at the end of the clearing. After pulling it over, they began to talk to the driver about their situation. Noticing a new boy standing with the group, holding his stomach as if he was injured, Savannah choose to keep quiet as the driver agreed to give them a ride, the group moved to the back of the van as ordered and Melissa opened the door. Climbing into the vehicle, they discovered a group of men already located there. During the ride, the men questioned them and the new boy introduced himself as "Token Jin," with the others following in introductions.

The driver then announced they had reached their destination and the group got out, with Token leading them by jumping out of the van, causing Savannah to feel suspicious about him. After noticing they were in a parking lot in front of a large building, the group noticed a man standing at the entrance of the building, beckoning them over.

"White Room"

Following behind Atticus, Savannah watched as he approached the man. Once stopped, Atticus introduced himself and the others, explaining how they arrived at the building. The man revealed himself to be Gabriel Alchemilia, telling the group that he owned the gray building, Alchemilia Corporation, behind him. Gabriel then asked the other group members for their names.

After everyone had finished their introductions, Gabriel ordered a woman passing by to bring everyone to the medical bay.

The woman led everyone, minus Chris, inside the building's lobby and through a series of escalators and elevators.

Once they had made it to the third floor, the woman led them to the medical bay and everyone took a seat. After ordering a doctor to help the group, the woman asked everyone about their injuries. Token, taking the lead, addressed everyone's injuries. The woman then left as the doctor, Simmons, appeared with medical equipment.

After tending to everyone, Simmons led the group into the cafeteria and handed them each a lunch token, one able to be redeemed into one meal. Departing from the doctor, the group went to get food.

Once finished with their meals, Savannah and Token had a small conversation on how they disliked the food. Melissa then asked if they should leave now that they were fed and Atticus stated that they should not leave without Chris. Bored, Token suggested they take a walk around the building. Atticus, believing such would be trespassing, disagreed. Dismissing the idea, Token eventually managed to talk everyone into following him.

Leading everyone into the lower levels of the building in the hope of finding a lounge downstairs, Token stopped at one of the corridors, admiring a computer room through a glass wall.

Using a map, Melissa told the group that they would reach the lounge if they continued going forwards. Following her directions, they continued until they were stopped by a man running from behind, and eventually, ahead of them. He wore a trench coat and carried a briefcase, quickly darting away.

Though everyone began to suggest going backward because of the figure's odd appearance, Token chose to quietly chase after the man, leading to everyone calling out to him frustratingly. Token stopped in the middle of the hallway when he realized the man had disappeared. Once the group saw him standing in the hallway alone, they asked about the whereabouts of the man. Token mostly ignored their questions and looked around the hallway. Ignoring further pleas to leave, Token disappeared into a room.

As he prepared to leave the room, Token was met with the quizzical looks of everyone in the doorway. Everyone asked Token what exactly he was doing, but Token only responded by telling them to lower their voices. Atticus then noticed an object held to Token's side and asked if he took the laptop from the room. After again telling everyone to stay quiet again, Token ordered everyone to follow him. The group was left annoyed once more, but they decided to follow him into the room so they could stay together.

Savannah then began to plead for Token to put the laptop back. Token, dismissing her concerns, told Savannah that if she had complaints, she should leave. Melissa said that because of their desire to not separate, they would not be leaving him alone.

After further walking, everyone was met by a set of two large doors at the end of the staircase. Though everyone told Token not to go inside and leave, Token did so anyway and went straight inside the room, the others following.

The group became horrified at what they saw. The room was an ultraviolet-lit room in which humans were subjected to brutal experimentation. They witnessed as Alchemilia scientists electrocuted and restrained human subjects, in addition to a variety of other torturous procedures. A man near the entry noticed the set of teenagers and asked a woman to switch from the room's ultraviolet lights to the standard ceiling lights.

The group quickly noticed this man was Mr. Udin, a man they had seen in passing earlier. He explained that the facility they were in was a bio-engineering lab, and that the group's lack of security credentials meant they had to be arrested. Udin asked a uniformed man named Mr. Sanchez to place them under arrest.

Sanchez stepped from behind Udin and addressed the group. To everyone's surprise, the man used the name "Rooke" to refer to Token rather than "Token" or "Jin."

Token, quickly swept by fear, bolted out of the room, everyone following behind him. Token led the group past the staircase into a corridor, iterating the fact that they needed to avoid being arrested.

The set of teenagers eventually managed to find an exit and poured into the Alchemilia Corporation parking lot after a long chase. Oddly to them, however, the chase had died down very quickly. Other than Sanchez, no other Alchemilia operatives appeared to be after them. They chose not to dwell on it.

Melissa asked if they were safe now as she panted. Token replied that he did not know, but he said that it was crucial to exit as soon as possible. Atticus asked how he planned to perform an escape, and Token said that the cars around the parking lot "gave him an idea." Savannah, annoyed, proceeded to lash out at the boy, calling him a "slope-skulled, smooth-brained invalid." Token replied with confusion and then looked around the parking lot.

Token managed to find a running car without a driver and he asked everyone to get inside. Savannah and Atticus attempted to refuse at first, pointing out the fact that taking the vehicle would only get them in even more trouble. Token convinced them to get in by saying that all of them were now in danger; reminding them that they did not want to end up in the horrific room they had seen earlier. The two ended up begrudgingly agreeing to the boy's proposal. Token asked Melissa to drive, and she agreed.

Melissa was able to drive the car without incident for a few moments. On the road, Atticus questioned Token on how he knew so much about the people in the corporation. Token revealed that his name was not Token but rather "Marshall Rooke," explaining that "Token" was only alias.

Soon after, Atticus alerted everyone that a motorcycle was pursuing the van. Looking at the motorcycle revealed it to be rode on by Sanchez and the trench-coated man from earlier. Once everyone became aware of this, Marshall ordered for Melissa to drive faster. Melissa nervously agreed and sped up the car, causing the two men to up their speed as well.

Sanchez began shooting at the car from the motorcycle's sidecar, managing to completely shatter the back glass. This startled Melissa and led her to let go of the steering wheel. Marshall jumped forward from the passenger seat once he noticed this, attempting to keep Melissa on the right path and avoid a car crash. Melissa eventually got a hold of herself once more, and she asked the boy to return to his seat so she could continue driving.

Marshall returned to the passenger seat and prepared to say they needed to keep going further, but a bullet would be shot through the window directly next to him. Melissa's lack of control had allowed the trench coated man to get closer to them, and Marshall was now filled with pain from glass shards and a bullet. Seeing this, Melissa sped up even further.

The boy could provide no more advice as Melissa approached a dead-end that diverged the road. Melissa ignored a plea from Savannah to slow down, and she continued speeding upward and prepared to return. The girl chose to make a right turn and avoid the dead-end. Melissa appeared to be successful, but an unnoticed approaching truck crashed into the car and sent it flying into the forest.

"Exit Music"

After her death, she had entered the afterlife, the domain of the deity Charon. As she hobbled through what she thought was a cave, Savannah smelled smoke. Her eyes stung and her chest tightened. The girl tried to change direction when she discovered a faint light behind her.

Savannah saw Charon standing in the mist, holding a dying lantern in its hand. The deity lifted the lantern to allow a better view of its face as he stared at her. The girl wanted fo run but her body did not move. Charon explained that she had left the mortal realm and entered her domain. Savannah tried to scream, however the being silenced her.

"Primo Victoria: Part II"

Charon allowed Savannah to ask him one question. The girl asked who he was. The figure laughed and a gust of wind flooded the cave. Savannah discovered she was floating. A moment later, she noticed a small white disc in the distance. There was a burst of noise and the sphere encompassed everything around her.

The girl opened her eyes to see 6 strange beings, including her past self. She heard Charon's voice saying other gods would call him a first generation deity. Before she could understand what had happened, a door appeared beneath her and she was pulled down into it.

The location on the other side was a desert. Two structures could be seen: a primitive mud-brick home and a cactus farm. The corpse of a young boy laid nearby. Savannah heard something behind her. She turned around to see the door transform into sand as Charon's voice told her scientists would consider him to be an Alexander-class Reality Manipulator.

One of the strange beings appeared near the boy and removed the scythe he had been impaled with. The body turned to dust and the being took the boy's appearance. The voice of Charon told her that Xeren's followers would consider him a "shepherd of souls." The being turned to Savannah and added that the titles Charon had mentioned were accurate, but left out something he considered important.

His appearance changed to that of Charon's and the surrounding area darkened to become the cave. Charon told the girl his name. He took out a paper and handed it to Savannah. The paper appeared to be a contract, however the deity explained that it was actually something the human mind could not perceive. It appeared to be a contract as that was the closest understandable concept. If signed, Savannah would be resurrected. Template:Protags
